1983 Dersim (Tunceli) de doğdu. Fırat Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi'nden mezun oldu. Tunceli de öğretmen olarak çalışıyor. 2010 yılında fotoğrafçılığa başladı. World Press Photo ve Noor-Nikon Masterclass atölyelerine katıldı. Toplumsal cinsiyet ve kadın çalışmaları, çevre sorunları, etnik gruplar, kent, kentleşme, kentsel mekanlar, toplumsal hareketler , göç ve mültecilik gibi konular üzerine fotoğraf ve video ile belgesel hikâyeler üretmekte. Narphotos fotoğraf kolektifi ve Varız Buradayız üyesi.

Serpil Polat was born in Dersim (Tunceli) in 1983 and graduated from Fırat University in the Faculty of Education. She works as a teacher in Dersim. Polat’s career as a photographer started in 2010. She attended workshops of World Press Photo and Noor-Nikon Masterclass. Serpil Polat produces photo stories and videos on the topics women's rights, environmental issues, ethnic groups, urbanization, social movements and migration. She was a member of the NarPhotos photographers collective until its disbandment in 2020 and is now a member of Vatoz Platform.
